Getting legally married in North Cyprus

When you are thinking about getting legally married North Cyprus these are the things you will need to consider.

Who is eligible to marry in North Cyprus | What documents are required


If you are Turkish Cypriot citizen

Turkish Cypriot citizens. You will need to submit these documents at your local district office. Therefore it is a good idea to have everything ready when you visit.

Identification Card

Parents’ identification card copies 

Certificate showing that there is no impediment to getting married.

The divorce certificate (If you have been divorced)

Cope of the Title Deed if you own an immovable property 

Health report


UK citizens 

* For the UK citizens a different procedure is required. However you must be lawfully resident in the TRNC. Please contact me for the latest requirements because laws do change periodically. 


When you or your fiancée, or both are foreign nationals

It is possible for foreign nationals to get married in TRNC when they are lawfully resident

You will need to provide the following information:

Passport

Muhtar’s Certificate 

Proof of Residency

Birth Certificate

Certificate showing that there is no impediment to getting married, issued by the official authorities in your country of citizenship*

Health report


Both single

*When you are considering getting legally married in North Cyprus and you are both single you will be exempt from submitting the Certificate of No Impediment. This is issued by the official authorities of the country of origin. However, a local law firm will prepare the similar document that would be valid for your application.


Translations of documents required.

For foreign nationals, all documents must be translated in Turkish. They need to be apostilled or certified by the Turkish Cypriot representative office in the UK or the Turkish Embassy.


When you have legally married before coming to North Cyprus to have your ceremony.

Many couples will choose to complete the legal side of their marriage before coming to the TRNC. This is normal in many European countries where there is normally a legal marriage followed by a wedding ceremony or blessing. Therefore when coming to North Cyprus you can have to a celebrant led ceremony at a place and time you want.
